This large suv is modern, well laid out and full of security systems: in Euro NCAP, besides having won five stars, was the only car tested in 2015 to score maximum points for devices that can prevent accidents (standard has emergency automatic braking can recognise pedestrians and cyclists even at night). The Interior of the Volvo XC90 has sober and doesn’t disappoint as for finishes: elegant skin that coats the aluminum seats and door panels and instrument panel. The space is not missing, but of the three sliding seats (for a total of 12 cm) in the middle of the second row is much narrower than the other (40/20/40 split it). The two posts (optional) to disappearance are not awkward nor is difficult to access by advancing and reclining the backrests of the middle row: much more complicated, rather, extract them from the trunk when you need to use them.
In addition to well finished, the boot of the Volvo XC90 is large if you are travelling in five, but also with all seven seats in place of use the space isn’t bad: 56 cm deep between the third row of seats and the joke of the tailgate (series opens electrically, and passing just one foot below the bumper by ordering the Versatility package). With air suspension, a key could lower the threshold of cargo from 76 to 71 centimeters: not much, but better than nothing.
TEST DRIVE OF NEW VOLVO XC90
Due to the length and width, the Volvo XC90 requires attention in confined spaces; in operation, the camera system in 360 degrees of Visual Park Assist (optional) is helpful in this. In March, you appreciate the emergency automatic braking system (standard), which also identifies pedestrians and cyclists and intervenes as well if you risk a frontal impact turning at an intersection. Not overdone, considering the type of car, the consumption detected: 11.4 km/liter.
Out of town
The four-cylinder pushes fluid, with a good snap, without “drinking” excessively (14.7 km/liter on reading) or make too much noise: excellent soundproofing. In turn, the steering is accurate (but not so quick to realignment) and road holding high for a car of this mole; powerful and well adjustable brakes, while the Esp intervenes in a timely manner and to the extent appropriate. Effective air suspension (optional).
On the highway
Consumption (12.1 km/litre) are not disproportionate given the impressive front and the height of this car. But travelling is primarily the considerable comfort to take: the air suspension “smooth out” the asphalt and, at 130 km/h, the automatic transmission works (8th March) the engine just 1950 rpm, reducing background noise. In emergency maneuvers, that require rapid changes in trajectory, the car, no matter how heavy, proves stable.
XC 90 Off road
The “off-road” (which thanks to pneumatic suspension increases by 4 cm ground clearance) and speed (10 km/h) in steep descents are not enough to make this car a real off-road: the weight is felt and in narrow passages agility is poor. Lacking even the gearbox, while sports and 20 inch rims tires are at constant risk of rupture and the body has no protection against scratches due to branches or gravel.
ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF 2017 VOLVO XC90
The cabin is well insulated from the noise (so you best appreciated also the Hi-Fi Bower & Wilkins from 1400 Watts) and the uneven ground: the credit goes to air suspension (optional).
The quality you notice even in thick mats, carpet. Flawless skin (standard) that covers the seats.
The cockpit is anything but narrow, the boot is large and behind the third row of seats is a couple of duffel bags.
The interiors convey a sense of modernity thanks to the display of 9 “from which you control all functions. Many safety devices.
Besides not having the gearbox, now rare, this suv tires (and rims) for road use. Moreover, its size does not help in off-road.
The car (which is not cheap) “gift” leather interior, but then charging accessories like rear dark glasses.
The second-row middle seat (40/20/40 split with) is tight. And those in the trunk are not at all practical to extract.
Behind we see little: remedies only electronics, though you have to get used to the camera angle. Before, some problem there: the hood is high and thick uprights.
